The Cool Block Program
Train to be a Cool Block Leader to help build climate-resilient, planet-friendly, and connected neighborhoods in Irvine! As a Cool Block Leader, you’ll be trained to guide a small group of neighbors through simple, practical actions that reduce carbon emissions, prepare for extreme weather, and strengthen neighborhood connections. You’ll serve your community, meet new people, and deepen your own knowledge of sustainable living—while helping Irvine become more resilient, one block at a time.

The Cool Block program uses an online platform that provides all the resources to create a sustainable and resilient home and neighborhood.
Their is a range of topics from energy efficiency, water conservation, and disaster preparedness with actions that can be performed under each topic. Each action is explained with resources and how to instructions.
The platform makes it easy to track your goals and promotes more sustainable living.
Interested in Being a Cool Block Leader?
We will be launching a Spring and Summer cohort for 2026! All training and support are provided. You can choose to be a Cool Block Leader or to join an existing group. Earn a $75 stipend as a participant and $150 as a leader once your application is accepted and the program is successfully completed.

Cool Block Leaders- it's time to make it official!
When picking your start time, please note that the program is meant to last about 3-4 months, with your cool block team meeting a few times based on your teams preferences. You will attend a 2-hour training session to equip you with the tools to successfully lead a team.
