Cool OC hosted its first Neighborhood Block Party in Woodbridge and it was a success! Curious about what made this event so special? Keep reading!
We brought the community together on Saturday, March 22, for a day centered around sustainability, creativity, and education. The event offered something for everyone, creating an engaging atmosphere for neighbors of all ages.
Attendees explored clean energy resources and learned about vermicomposting with live worm bins, gaining valuable knowledge on how they can make a positive environmental impact. The day also featured a variety of plant-based food tastings, highlighting sustainable food choices that can help reduce our carbon footprint.
Guests had the opportunity to view nature-inspired artwork by local artist Sangeetha Gopalakrishnan, adding a creative touch to the event. For the younger crowd, a STEAM challenge sparked curiosity, while a climate quiz for teens tested their environmental awareness in a fun, interactive way.
One of the event’s highlights was the community swap, where attendees brought 83 pre-loved items. Forty-five of these items found new homes, and the rest were donated, promoting a culture of reuse and reducing waste.
This successful event demonstrated the power of community, creativity, and sustainable living. Interested in hosting a Neighborhood Block Party in your area? Contact us at programs@cooloc.org to get involved.
